Just a reliable pick for strolling around in Edinburgh with extraordinarily good value for money. The comfortable large room had great heating that was easily adjustable. Consider turning off the heater when you arrive to avoid overheating.

I appreciated its great value for money rooms.
Rooms on a higher level had a quiet atmosphere. A high ceiling, coffee-making facilities and a dining area were provided. Prime location right by the castle and the royal mile, the main tourist's attractions and pubs and convenient for buses into town and out to the Airport, Zoo etc, located on a very quiet road close to St Mary's Cathedral, I felt safe. Had some takeout meals at La Campagnola, set just walking distance from the hotel, I couldn't resist.

Hotel staff were very nice. I got to the hotel after their business hours, but the lady at the reception desk stayed late waiting for me.
The heater kept making noises and it kept waking me up while I was asleep. The shower water didn't drain very well at all. The glass shelf in bathroom was falling apart and it was dangerous to place anything on it.

The room I stayed in was spacious and cozy. The unique charm of the old building caught my eye. I loved unwinding in the cozy bar area after a day full of sightseeing! The old sash windows provided a good view of the surroundings.

Charming old building with original features. Good views of the neighboring gardens and a glimmer of the castle from some rooms enhance the overall stay.
The breakfast schedule felt a bit cramped, with limited time slots, which disrupted the leisurely vibe of a holiday. Cleanliness was inconsistent-our room had some dust in corners, and the coffee/tea setup wasn't replenished regularly, which took away from the comfort of our stay.

We have stayed here for 2 nights and had a very enjoyable experience. Actually, the room was neat and bright, it also had a shower, a hair dryer and bath sheets.

The desk staff at the Thistle Hotel were gracious and accommodating and we felt they were sincerely trying to help us make the most of our stay. Rooms were clean and tasteful. Overall, would recommend.
Only drawback, no food served in the pub or an attached restaurant for dinners but lots of places not that far away.

Friendly staff. The hotel was amazingly quiet and very quaint.
We did not realize the hotel did not have an elevator and we were at the end of a month long vacation with lots of luggage which we had to lug up to our room. Fortunately we were only one long flight of stairs up.I Am not sure how we would have managed if we had been on one of the upper floors.
